Caernarfon Castle

During our half-term break at the end of May, we went to Caernarfon castle. Caernarfon appears stunning from the outside. We stayed nearby for an entire week so that we could see it at any time of day. A week ago we intended to fly to Heathrow Airport. We decided to take a cab from Heathrow Airport to the castle. The day arrived, and we took a flight to Heathrow Airport.

The driver was already waiting for us at the airport. We reserved a cab with company, which was one of the best online cab service providers in the UK. I frequently use their transportation to and from the airport. We approached him and introduced ourselves. The driver greeted us cheerfully and offered to take our bags. We were quite an at ease with our bags and suitcases. The luggage was placed in the boot of the cab by the driver. We then continued on our journey. He was so friendly. We took a break from the trip to take some lunch. We ordered some sandwiches and drinks. Sandwiches were so delicious with cheese in them. After lunch, we moved forward. He dropped us at a given location.

Caernarfon Castle is much larger than the rest of Edward's castles, so visiting it is almost a physical challenge, especially if you decide to explore every tower and room. Fortunately, the majority of the exhibitions are on the ground floor, so if you are not in good shape, you can still go (and trust me, some of us are not). Climbing mediaeval steps to the top of ten towers is no easy task. I recommend limiting your climbing time and concentrating on the various exhibitions available. I loved the presentation about the history of the "Prince of Wales" at the bottom of the royal tower, as well as the exhibition about the mythology that inspired Edward to invest specifically in this castle.

Caernarfon Castle also housed a museum honouring the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. It was a great addition, and it just goes to show that you can use the empty spaces in all of these castles to add attractions and exhibitions that aren't necessarily directly related to the history of that particular castle. You could use the space and its allure to tell stories about Wales, and other historical sites in it, or simply explain life in a castle in the 13th-14th centuries (you can visit Chirk Castle to get some more tips about this).

A guided tour, as always, would enhance visits to this castle. I've been to the Tower of London three times now, and what I remember most are the great stories I heard from the "Beefeaters" there. A similar tour in Caernarfon would have made this visit ten times more enjoyable. To summarise, many people travel to the north of Wales to explore Edward's castles, but Caernarfon is probably the only one that is truly worth visiting. It has enough exhibitions and attractions to keep the whole family entertained for a few hours and is probably one of the best glorious ruins in the entire British Isles.
