St Michael’s Mount

We visited St Michael’s Mount in the middle of the week during Easter break. As you can imagine, the place was packed. We arrived early enough to view the appearance of the causeway. It was spellbinding to see the very long line of tourists getting ever closer to the Mount as the water diminished. Our kids enjoyed the excellent climbing frame on Marazion beach while we were taking pictures. It took great effort to get them to leave. Our whole family planned a trip to St Michael's Mount. We booked our flight tickets and we landed at Heathrow Airport. We already booked a company cab and their service reviews were awesome. We preferred them. They told us fair charges. The driver was waiting for us with my name board. We followed him to the car. The car was luxurious with a refreshing aroma inside the car. He was so good to us. We reached the location after some hours.

When we first arrived, there was another long line of people waiting to cross the short distance by boat between the island and the beach. We only realized later that this is most likely the best way to explore the castle on top of the mount because it was open to the public for an hour before the causeway reappeared. When we finally crossed the causeway and began the steep climb to the castle, it was clear that we were in for a similar experience to the one we had when we attempted to visit the Palace of Versailles during our summer vacation. The castle was completely packed, and in my opinion, it would be uninteresting if built somewhere else. Aside from the views that could be seen from every window, visiting the overcrowded rooms had nothing to offer.

It was obvious that there would be no guided tours here, but the National Trust volunteers were more than happy to share their knowledge of the castle's history and explain the various artifacts in greater detail. The disadvantage of visiting this castle is that there are no stories about its history or the history of the Mount. While many of the visitors were tourists with children looking for the best photo opportunities, I'm sure there were enough visitors who wanted to learn more about this castle and the events that occurred there. It is easy to visit a site like this and learn nothing about it, which is unfortunate.

If you are planning a visit to Mount and are interested in history and want to learn more, I recommend that you do some reading before you go. While my wife and I explored the castle (in turns), the kids had a great time exploring the rock pools near the causeway. when visiting the Mount, bring a bucket, a spade, and a mini fisherman's net for the kids. To summarise, St Michael's Mount is a must-see attraction. The castle atop it is only worth exploring if it isn't too crowded... It is easy to spend an entire day in the area, and my advice is to come early during low tide or late in the day to see how the path to the island disappears at high tide; this is where the magic happens.
